LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge firefighters honoured Mike Mountain Horse Elementary School student Ryder Davenport with the title of ‘Fire Chief for a Day’ on Thursday, November 2, 2023.
For over a decade, Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services has bestowed the title on a student during Fire Prevention Week, which has happened in Lethbridge since 1922. This year, Fire Prevention Week was recognized October 8 to 14.
Fire Prevention Officer Neil Jesse said, “Fire Prevention Week actually entails all the public. The premise of it is for adults, students, really anybody, because lots of fires can be prevented, and it really starts at home.”
As ‘Fire Chief for a Day’, Davenport was given a fire suit. He will also get to go on a tour of the fire station, and ride in one of the service’s trucks.
