LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Food Bank has received a sizeable donation from an Alberta energy company.

On November 3, 2023, Sponsor Energy presented the Lethbridge Food Bank with a cheque signifying the $16,700 donation to the food bank.

Mac Nichol, Executive Director of Lethbridge Food Bank said, “We’ve seen food banks really being leaned on in this time of need, so for Sponsor Energy and groups like this to come in and donate like this, especially this time of year, it means a lot to us.”

Nichol added that the donation will help meet the increased demand for hampers in November and December.

The donation from Sponsor Energy comes from an incentive from when customers register for the company’s services. Upon signing up, customers choose a charity which the company will donate $50 to, and it totaled $16,700 for the food bank.

Sponsor Energy CEO Carolyn Martin said, “It’s very significant to us, and we’re really happy to see Lethbridge really embracing the Lethbridge Food Bank and showing they care by signing up with us and making that choice.”

Nichol said the food bank ideally spends around $300,000 on food each year, but they hit that mark in July.

Interfaith Food Bank in Lethbridge also reported that usage climbed up to 3,415 in September of 2023, doubling from the same month in 2019.
