LETHBRIDGE, AB – The YMCA of Lethbridge has named its latest scholarship recipients and nominees.

Officials said the honours recognize those who have shown exceptional dedication to the community.

SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

Matt Clarkson has been named the recipient of the YMCA of Lethbridge Community Commitment Scholarship. It is a $1,000 grant from the YMCA of Lethbridge.

Officials said Clarkson’s four years of service at the local YMCA, combined with his dedication to reconciliation and community building, “make him an outstanding recipient”.

Three individuals have been named the recipients of the Lifeguard Scholarships, worth $1,340 each. The winners are Abby Loveridge, William McDonald, and Ty Stensrud.

The YMCA said the scholarships aim to help those with lifeguarding skills who aspire to make a meaningful impact in the community.

SCHOLARSHIP NOMINEES

The YMCA has also announced scholarship nominees.

Kimoya Edwards has been nominated for the RBC Future Launch for Black Youth Scholarship. This offers $10,000 per year for up to four years. Edwards is a volunteer and a third-year neuroscience student at the University of Lethbridge.

Two nominees have been named for the Ted Rogers Community Scholarships. Payton Hanna and Grant Nelson have both had their names put forward for the $1,000 scholarship.

Hanna is said to be an active leader and volunteer in the community, while Nelson is a graduate of the YMCA of Lethbridge Education Services program.

Officials said the scholarship winners and recipients embody the YMCA’s mission to inspire and motivate others to create a positive impact on the community.
