LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge said is it continuing research into how reduced speed limits in residential neighbourhoods could impact safety.

Effective November 24, 2023, the speed limit has been lowered from 50 kilometers per hour to 40 in the Uplands/Blackwolf and Southgate Sixmile neighbourhoods.

This is part of the Residential Speed Limit Pilot Project, which began in the Paradise Canyons/The Canyons area on September 15.

“The decision to reduce speeds in some residential neighbourhoods to 40 km/h has been made based on traffic safety best practices, research, and data. It has not been done to collect additional speeding fines,” the City of Lethbridge said in a media release.

During the pilot project stage, the municipality hopes to garner public feedback. Residents can complete an online survey on the City of Lethbridge website.
