Holiday cake decorating contest returns to Lethbridge College

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge College is all set to host a special baking contest.

The Kodiaks Coke Cake Holiday Bake-off is a cake decorating contest that started in 2020 as an initiative to engage school alumni. The event has since grown, with everyone – not just alumni – invited to participate. Those who take part will have a chance to win a new KitchenAid mixer and a swag bag of Lethbridge College and Coca-Cola treats.

Stephanie Savage, alumni and engagement manager said, “The Kodiaks Coke Cake Holiday Bake-off is a tradition that is close to our hearts because it’s all about the joy of bringing people together and quality time spent in the kitchen – and the sprinkle of friendly competition doesn’t hurt either.”

Savage added, “Due to the incredible outpouring of love and support this contest has received over the past three years, we’re excited to extend the invitation to all members of our community this year.”

Interested bakers can register for a free cake kit. Savage said the college has 300 kits to give away. Kits will be available for pick-up between 4 and 6:30 p.m. on November 1, 2023 or December 1 in the college’s front loop.

The kits come with a custom cake recipe developed by chef Amanda Kawchuk, an instructor and graduate of the college’s School of Culinary Arts. The recipe will also be available online. All dry ingredients are included in the kits and come pre-measured and pre-mixed, with creative add-ins encouraged. A can of Coca-Cola is also supplied.

The college said that cakes should be decorated in either a Coca-Cola or Kodiaks theme.

Once completed done, bakers can submit a photo of their work online. Entries must be in by midnight on December 20 to be included in the voting process. An online voting portal will be shared on the Lethbridge College Alumni Facebook page when voting opens on December 21.

The voting process will close at midnight on December 31. The five cakes with the most votes will be judged by a committee made up of Lethbridge College employees, students, alumni and community members. The winner will be announced on January 3, 2024.
