Standoff man charged following drug and weapon seizure

STANDOFF, AB – Police have charged a Standoff man faces charges following a drug and weapon seizure in the community.

The Blood Tribe Police Service (BTPS) said that on November 11, 2023, its Community Policing Unit responded to a complaint of an unknown male who was unlawfully in a residence in Standoff.

Police said as unit members approached the male on scene, he fled on foot but was apprehended a short time later. According to authorities, a search of the suspect resulted in the seizure of approximately 10 grams of suspected fentanyl pre-packaged for distribution, scales, drug paraphernalia, and a knife.

Leland Eagle Speaker, 18, of Standoff, is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, and being unlawfully in a dwelling.

Eagle Speaker was released from custody and is due in Cardston Provincial Court on November 27.
