LETHBRIDGE, AB – An annual aquatic race returned to the University of Lethbridge (U of L) this week.

The Cardboard Boat Race, put on by Career Transitions, was held at the U of L on Thursday, November 16, 2023.

In the competition, 50 teams of four students were provided with sheets of cardboard, a cutting tool and some tape to make a boat. The teams then competed in both a timed race and a weight challenge.

Two divisions, made up of students from schools across southern Alberta, were represented in competition:

  • Senior (Grades 10-12)
  • Junior (Grades 7-9)

The teams arrived at the U of L at 9:00 a.m. for check-in, then began construction at 10:00 in the 1st Choice Savings Centre. The races and weight challenges began at 12:30 at the pool and ran until 2:00 p.m.
