Nov 20, 2023 | 9:12 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge School Division is taking submissions of names for a new school in the Garry Station neighbourhood.

Ground was broken at the site of the new K-5 elementary school in late September, and officials said the facility will eventually be able to accommodate 900 students.

Before the new school opens, the public has a chance to submit their ideas on a name for the facility. Those with ideas can share them by filling out a school naming form, available at the division website.

Criteria for names can also be found through the school division website. Submissions must be sent to Garrett Simmons at garrett.simmons@lethsd.ab.ca by February 15, 2024. Additionally, physical forms can be dropped off at the Lethbridge School Division Education Centre at 433-15 Street South.

NAMING COMMITTEE

A naming committee will be formed to review the suggested names.

Members will narrow down the suggested names and submit a list to the Board of Trustees. Board members will then decide on the name for the new K-5 school by the end of June.

The division said the goal is for the new school to be operational by September 2025.
