LETHBRIDGE, AB – A pair of youths from Lethbridge have been brought into custody in southeastern B.C.

The Elk Valley Regional RCMP said it was notified by the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) on Monday, November 20, 2023, that a reportedly stolen vehicle was likely in their area.

According to the LPS, two teenagers were suspected of occupying a stolen red Chevy truck.

The alleged driver, a 16-year-old boy from Lethbridge, is said to have had a missing 15-year-old girl with him in the vehicle. Officers were able to ping the location of the girl on her cell phone and became aware that they were coming back from the Elkford area.

The RCMP said its members found the vehicle speeding southbound on Highway 43 and attempted to stop it, but the suspects allegedly evaded police.

A spike belt was deployed, but the driver was reportedly able to get around it.

The vehicle was found abandoned a short distance away.

“There was no damage to the truck and driving evidence along the roadway further indicated that the vehicle had been operated in a manner which placed the general public at great risk,” said the Elk Valley RCMP.

An RCMP officer was able to make contact with the youths and was able to convince them to surrender themselves.

Due to “further information received,” the suspects were taken into custody and awaited guardians to bring them home from the Sparwood area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Elk Valley Regional RCMP at 250-425-6233. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to the BC Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-8477.
