LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes finished their B.C. road trip on Friday, November 24, 2023.

The Canes finished the five game trip with a record of 3-2, but could not end it with a victory, falling 6-4 to the Prince George Cougars, who sit atop the WHL standings.

In the game, the Hurricanes got on the scoreboard first with Elias Knoester’s third of the season, assisted by Kooper Gizowski. The Cougars tied it up just over two minutes later at the 4:23 mark.

Later in the period, Miguel Marques recaptured the lead in his hometown, scoring his ninth goal of the season. Brayden Edwards notched the lone assist on his goal.

The Cougars eventually took a 3-2 lead on the back of Riley Heidt’s two goals in the last four minutes of the frame.

Heading into the second period, the Hurricanes got a big contribution from their captain Joe Arntsen. The defenceman scored two goals in just over four minutes to give his squad a 4-3 lead.

Marques assisted on both goals, while Leo Braillard and Logan Wormald got the secondary assists on Arntsen’s first and second goal, respectively. Zac Funk of the Cougars tied the game at a 4-4 deadlock to end the second period.

The third period saw the score knotted up for the first 13 minutes. However, a Will Sharpe high sticking penalty sent Prince George to the man advantage, and Zac Funk scored 15 seconds into the powerplay to give the Cougars a 5-4 lead. They would add the insurance goal at the 15:45 mark to seal the victory.

The loss drops Lethbridge to a 13-10-2 record on the season, and they still occupy second place in the Central Division.

After the long road trip, the Hurricanes will return to home ice on Wednesday, November 29 when they host the Calgary Hitmen. Puck drop will be at 7:00 p.m.
