EDMONTON, AB – The Government of Alberta is supporting non-profits who use the Crowdfunding Alberta platform.

Those who launch a campaign on the website can receive up to $5,000 in annual government funding.

Tanya Fir, Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women said, “I am proud to continue our support for non-profits and charitable organizations in Alberta that make our province a better place to live, work and play.”

She continued, “With today being Giving Tuesday (November 28), it is the perfect time for Albrtans to explore our crowdfunding platform, learn more about Alberta non-profits and contribute to the causes they are passionate about.”

Officials said that it’s easier for non-profits to generate funding because of Crowdfunding Alberta. Additionally, the government’s fund-matching commitment, which can be accessed year-round, creates a greater impact.

Jennifer Martin, CEO of Little Warriors, said, “Generous donations fund our programs that help kids overcome the devastating effects of child sexual abuse and support children to move on to lead vibrant accomplished lives.”

She continued, “Through our partnership with the Government of Alberta using the crowdfunding platform, they matched donations to help even more children, teens and families overcome their trauma. Everyone who donates is a difference maker making a huge impact.”

Since 2021, there have been 180 campaigns run on Crowdfunding Alberta.

According to officials, Alberta has the highest donation tax credit of any province or territory in Canada. Albertans are eligible for a 60 per cent tax credit on the first $200 donated to a charity registered with the Canada Revenue Agency.
