Pincher Creek RCMP lay charges in copper thefts

PINCHER CREEK, AB – Two people are facing charges in an RCMP investigation into copper thefts.

Pincher Creek RCMP were investigating a series of copper theft from local infrastructure, which led to hundreds of thousands of damages, and has impacted drinking water supplies.

Police said that on the night of November 27, 2023, a local land owner and a utility employee located two individuals actively stripping wire from a wind turbine near Pincher Creek.

They contacted the RCMP and officers arrested two suspects. Police were able to retrieve multiple stolen items during the investigation.

Johannes Jorgensen ,46, a resident of Lundbreck and Daniel Price, 57, of Pincher Creek have both been charged with several criminal offences, including:

  • Break and Enter
  • Theft over $5000
  • Mischief over $5000
  • Possession of Break In Instruments
  • Two offences under the Critical Infrastructure Defence Act

Jorgensen and Price will be appearing in Alberta Court of Justice in Pincher Creek on Friday, November 30.
