LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes returned to the ENMAX Centre for the first time in over two weeks last night.

The Canes were taking on the Calgary Hitmen on home ice on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, following the conclusion of their five-game B.C. road trip. The Hurricanes went 3-2 on the trip, with victories over Victoria, Vancouver and Kamloops.

The Hurricanes started off the game strong with a goal from Miguel Marques just over our minutes into the first period, off a backdoor pass from Noah Chadwick. Logan Wormald had the secondary assist on the play.

In the second, the rough stuff began, with Hurricanes captain Joe Arntsen and the Hitmen’s Tyson Greenway each getting a five-minute major for fighting.

Marques continued his hot streak, scoring his 11th of the year assisted by Wormald and Brayden Edwards. The two goals gave Marques eight points in his last three games, and 29 points in 26 games on the season.

In the dying seconds of the period, Elias Knoester scored his fourth of the year at the 19:45 mark, assisted by Kooper Gizowski and Arntsen. The Hitmen outshot the Hurricanes 17-13 in the frame, but Harrison Meneghin shut the door to keep Calgary scoreless.

The third period had little on the scoresheet until the 12:12 mark when Arntsen completed his Gordie Howe hat trick (a goal, assist and a fight) with a booming shot from the point for his fourth goal of the season. Edwards and Wormald picked up their second and third assists of the game, respectively.

The Hitmen finally broke onto the scoreboard with a goal from Oliver Tulk on a penalty shot, but that’s all they would get as the Hurricanes took the game 4-1.

Marques was named the game’s first star for his two goal performance. Meneghin’s 36 saves netted him second star, and Wormald earned third star with his three assist night.

With the win, the Hurricanes improve to a 14-10-2 record on the season, and trail the Swift Current Broncos by just three points for first place in the Central Division.

The Canes will have a big test on Friday, December 1 when they take on the WHL-leading Saskatoon Blades at the ENMAX Centre.

The game is the Hurricanes’ annual Teddy Bear Toss.
