‘Significant amounts of snow’ expected in southwestern Alberta Thursday

CROWSNEST PASS, AB – Environment Canada had upgraded its weather advisory for parts of southern Alberta.

The weather agency has issued a winter storm warning for the southwestern corner of the region for Thursday, December 7, 2023. .

Some of the impacted communities are Crowsnest Pass, Waterton Lakes National Park, and Pincher Creek.

In those areas, Environment Canada said heavy snow will begin Thursday morning with total snowfall amounts of 25 to 35 cm. The highest snowfall total are expected over areas of higher terrain.

A winter storm watch – a less severe weather advisory – remains in effect for other communities such as Fort Macleod, Cardston, and Del Bonita. Up to 10 to 15 cm of snow is in the forecast.

During the snowfall, visibility will be reduced. Residents are asked to consider postponing any non-essential travel until conditions improve.

The snow is expected to taper off by Friday morning.
