Siksika Nation residents charged in connection with alleged robbery

GLEICHEN, AB – The RCMP in southern Alberta has charged two Siksika Nation residents in connection with an alleged armed robbery.

On November 27, 2023, the Gleichen RCMP responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Gleichen Cannabis Store. Two suspects were said to have entered the shop with a firearm and allegedly demanded cannabis products.

Police said the two suspects fled in a reportedly stolen vehicle with a quantity of cannabis products.

The RCMP Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU) was assigned to investigate.

On December 7, SAD CRU, with assistance from Gleichen RCMP, executed a search warrant at a home on the Siksika Nation.

Brandon Royal, a 23-year-old resident of Siksika Nation, is charged with the following:

  • Robbery with a firearm
  • Wearing a disguise with intent
  • Two counts of fail to comply with a release order
  • Two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to order
  • Possess a firearm knowing its serial number has been altered, defaced, or removed
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm knowing he was not the holder of a licence
  • Careless use of a prohibited firearm

Meanwhile, 24-year-old Kyler Wolfear, also a resident of the Siksika Nation, has been charged with:

  • Robbery with a firearm
  • Wearing a disguise with intent
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to order
  • Two counts of possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose
  • Possess a firearm knowing its serial number has been altered, defaced, or removed
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm knowing he was not the holder of a licence
  • Two counts of fail to comply with release order
  • Possession of stolen property over $5000

Both Royal and Wolfear are due in Siksika court on December 14.
