Milk River Emergency Department closure extended

UPDATE – January 11, 2024

MILK RIVER, AB – Alberta Health Services has again extended the temporary closure of the Emergency Department (ED) at the Milk River Health Centre.

The closure will be in effect until 5 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024. The closure, which is the result of a lack of physician coverage, began on Monday, January 8.

Nursing staff will remain on-site during the closure. Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency, with EMS calls being re-routed to the Raymond Health Centre or Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge.

MILK RIVER, AB – Alberta Health Services (AHS) has confirmed another temporary closure of the Milk River Health Centre Emergency Department (ED).

AHS said The ED was to be closed effective immediately on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. It is set to re-open at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10 to provide 24-hour service. Officials said the closure is due to a lack of physician coverage.

Nursing staff will remain on-site during the temporary closure to provide care for long-term care residents. Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency, with EMS calls being re-routed to the Raymond Health Centre or Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge.

Patients seeking care can access emergency services at the facilities listed above.

Additionally, residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions. Those requiring non-emergency medical care are also encouraged to call their family physician.
