CROWSNEST PASS, AB – It is exactly the news that Castle Mountain Resort has been hoping for.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the southwestern corner of Alberta on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

The impacted communities include Crowsnest Pass, Pincher Creek, and Waterton Lakes National Park.

They say up to 15 cm of snow is forecast to fall, with areas of higher terrain, especially in the national park, getting the most.

“Snowfall will begin [Tuesday], with 10 cm expected by Wednesday morning. Snowfall will continue in the region through Thursday, with another 5 cm expected by Wednesday night,” said Environment Canada.

Officials at ski resorts including Castle Mountain Resort have reported an unusual lack of snow so far this winter, but remained optimistic given the potential of snowfall this week.

For drivers, however, the snow might not be so welcomed as Environment Canada warns that visibility may be reduced in some areas. Drivers are asked to adjust their driving habits accordingly.
