LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes are back in the win column following a 3-2 victory over the Spokane Chiefs on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

The game marked the Hurricanes debut for forwards Dylan Sydor and Sean Tschigerl, who were both acquired by Lethbridge as part of a flurry of trades on Monday.

Though the first period saw plenty of shots, with the Chiefs outshooting the Hurricanes 13-12, they resulted in no tallies on the scoresheet.

The game’s momentum changed in the second period when Brayden Edwards wired home a wrister for his 18th goal of the season 8:31 into the frame. Miguel Marques tallied the lone assist on the goal.

A little over two minutes later, Logan Wormald made it a 2-0 game for Lethbridge with his own 18th goal, assisted by Marques and Edwards on the powerplay.

The Chiefs cut the lead in half 15:31 into the second period with a goal by projected top-10 NHL draft pick Berkly Catton, his 25th of the season. Catton added his second of the game 15:15 into the third to tie it up as regulation ended.

With the score tied, the game headed into overtime with Spokane having a 36-31 advantage in shots. 56 seconds into the extra frame, Catton was called for a high sticking penalty which sent the Hurricanes on the powerplay.

After over a minute of powerplay time, Noah Chadwick ended the game with a one-timer from the faceoff circle to give his team a 3-2 victory in front of a crowd of 2,743 fans.

Hurricanes goaltender Harrison Meneghin picked up his 17th win of the season after stopping 34 of 36 shots. The Hurricanes ran an efficient powerplay in the game, capitalizing on two of their three opportunities.

The Hurricanes will finish their four game homestead on Friday, January 12 when they host the Medicine Hat Tigers at the ENMAX Centre. They will then take off for a four hame road trip which will take them into Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
