LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes have bolstered their defence core at the trade deadline.

On January 10, 2024, the Hurricanes announced that they acquired 2004-born defenceman Braeden Wynne from the Seattle Thunderbirds in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.

Wynne began his WHL career with the Edmonton Oil Kings in the 2021-22 season, spending two years with the club before making his way to Seattle to begin this season. He was on the Oil Kings roster that won the WHL Championship in 2022-23.

In 20 games with the Thunderbirds, Wynne has three assists and two penalty minutes with a plus 3 rating.

Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt highlighted defence as a priority heading into the trade deadline. He said, “We’re happy to be able to add Braeden to our group to give us some added depth on the blueline,”

Anholt added, “We wanted to add a defenceman and we think he will be able to come in and give us some quality minutes on the back end while bringing some championship experience to our group.”

The Hurricanes will finish their four game homestead on Friday, January 12 when they host the Medicine Hat Tigers at the ENMAX Centre.
