LETHBRIDGE, AB – If you haven’t noticed already, it is quite cold outside.

So cold, in fact, that Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for the entire province.

On Thursday, January 11, 2024, they say temperatures will hover around -30 degrees Celsius with wind chill values close to -40.

Air temperatures are expected to gradually fall through the end of the week with the coldest values expected by Saturday morning, where wind chills could dip as low as -50.

The weather forecaster said extreme cold weather puts everyone at risk.

“Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter,” said Environment Canada.

The public is asked to watch for cold-related symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness, and colour change in your fingers and toes.

People are also advised to dress warmly and to limit their time outdoors as much as possible.

More details on weather alerts can be found on the Environment Canada website.
