Horizon and Westwind Division schools to be closed Friday due to weather

TABER, AB – Alberta has been hit with a cold snap, and as a result, some schools are being closed going into the weekend.

The Horizon School Division has confirmed that all of its schools will be closed on Friday, January 12, 2024. The division operates schools in areas like Taber, Vauxhall, Enchant and Milk River.

The Westwind School Division said its schools will be closed as well due to the extreme temperatures. Westwind operates schools in areas like Magrath, Cardston and Raymond.

Environment Canada issued an extreme cold warning on Thursday, noting that wind chills are forecast to be as low as minus 50 degrees Celsius on Saturday morning.
