Lethbridge School Division open Monday, but buses not running

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Students attending schools in the Lethbridge School Division and their parents are advised that schools will indeed be open on Monday, January 15, 2024.

The Division said schools will be operational and will provide a safe, warm, and secure environment for students, staff, and faculty.

However, Southland Transportation has informed school officials that its buses will not be running due to the extreme cold weather.

Parents are asked to take extra precautions and they drive their children to school.

Things will be different at the city’s Christian schools within the Lethbridge School Division.

“This notice does not impact students who attend Immanuel Christian Elementary School, Immanuel Christian Secondary School or Lethbridge Christian School, as those schools do not utilize Southland for bus transportation,” said an advisory from the Lethbridge School Division. “For information regarding transportation and operations for those schools, please contact the schools directly.”

An extreme cold warning remains in effect for all of Alberta. Although temperatures are expected to moderate somewhat on Monday, wind chill values in the morning could still reach -43 degrees Celsius.
