Dozens of cold weather records set this weekend in Alberta

BOW ISLAND, AB – To say that the last few days have been cold would be an understatement.

Environment Canada said 37 daily minimum temperature records were set over the past two days, January 13 and 14, 2024.

The temperates listed in this article do not include wind chill values.

The coldest place was Esther in southeastern Alberta on Sunday, which reached a low of -47.1 degrees Celsius.

Cold weather records were also set in southern Alberta communities such as Bow Island, Brooks, Cardston, Claresholm, Crowsnest Pass, Medicine Hat, Milk River, and Onefour.

All of Alberta remains under an extreme cold warning Monday. Environment Canada said wind chill values as low as -50 will persist this morning, but should increase during the later parts of the day.
