More cold weather records set Monday in Alberta

WATERTON, AB – It will hopefully be the last of the cold weather records for a bit, but a few more were set.

Environment Canada said daily minimum temperature records were set in 12 Alberta communities on Monday, January 15, 2024.

The temperatures listed in this article do not include wind chill values.

High Level was the coldest area in the province, hitting a low of -46.4 degrees Celsius. That barely broke the previous record of -46.1 set in 1971.

In southern Alberta, records were set in Bow Island, Cardston, Claresholm, Crowsnest Pass, Milk River, and Waterton Lakes National Park.

  • Drumheller Area
    • New record of -40.0

  • Esther Area
    • New record of -37.6

  • High Level Area
    • New record of -46.4

Dozens of cold weather records had been set in each of the last few days due to the extreme cold weather.

The extreme cold warning for southern Alberta has come to an end. However, Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for southwest corner of the province on Tuesday.
