The Lethbridge-West MLA took to X (formerly known as Twitter) with two posts about Notley’s time in office. Phillips called working on Notley’s team “an honour” and praised her leadership.

Phillips took over the position as Lethbridge-West MLA in 2015, the same year the NDP won the election and Notley became Premier of Alberta. During her time as an elected official, Phillips has served as Minister of Environment and Parks of Alberta, and is currently the Finance Critic.

Notley said she stepped down in order to help the party find new voices, but added she will remain in office until a replacement is chosen.

She also said she was unsure as of yet if she will fulfill her current term as the legislature member for Edmonton-Strathcona.
