Shipping container explodes in Medicine Hat, no injuries reported

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The RCMP’s major crimes unit and a fire investigator are working together to determine the cause of an explosion in Medicine Hat’s light industrial area Tuesday night, January 23, 2024.

Emergency services were called to a business in the 3100 block of 18 Avenue Southwest around 9:30 p.m.

Officials say the explosion occurred inside a shipping container, known as a “c-can” or “sea-can.”

No one was hurt and the damage was limited to the shipping container and its contents, which are unknown.
