LETHBRIDGE, AB – Shoppers Drug Mart has announced an expansion of its pharmacy care clinics.

The company, owned by Loblaws, announced $77 million to open an additional 44 locations across Alberta in 2024.

They include spots in Okotoks, Sherwood Park, Calgary, Edmonton, Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, and others.

President Jeff Leger said, by the end of the year, they will offer limited primary healthcare services in more than 100 of their stores.

“We’re pleased to announce this record milestone with the government of Alberta today – 103 pharmacy care clinics across the province by year end – in a jurisdiction that proudly welcomes investment and innovation for the benefit of the province,” said Leger.

“We’re grateful to partner with a government who understands the valuable role pharmacists can play in the delivery of primary care and are proud to be doing our part within the broader public system to make sure patients are able to get the care they need, when they need it,” he added.

At the clinics, pharmacists can assess chronic conditions, minor ailments, and more.

The first pharmacy care clinic opened in Lethbridge in June 2022, which the company called a “great success.” Shoppers now has two clinics in the city – one on 380 University Drive and the other at 3071 26 Avenue North.

Health Minister Adriana LaGrange said it is great to see Shoppers supporting Albertans.

“This commitment by Shoppers Drug Mart to invest in primary care in Alberta communities aligns with our government’s efforts to refocus the province’s health system. These pharmacy care clinics are an innovative way to offer Albertans convenient and easily accessible care in their community,” said LaGrange.

To date, nearly 200,000 patients have visited Shopper’s pharmacy care clinics.
