LETHBRIDGE, AB – Businesses, organizations, and institutions in Lethbridge are reminded that they must submit waste reports by the end of the month.

The City of Lethbridge said these groups fall under the Mandatory Recycling and Mandatory Organics provisions under Waste Bylaw 6146.

They are required to complete an online report by January 31, 2024, which the city said takes less than five minutes to do.

The steps that businesses must comply with include:

  1. Providing separate bins for recyclables and organics with signage
  2. Have recyclables and organics hauled away for processing
  3. Train staff on which bins to put their waste in
  4. Submit annual waste reports online before January 31, 2024

The City said more than 200 organizations have already submitted their reports.

Home-based businesses are not required to complete waste reports.

According to the municipality, more than half of all waste received at the landfill comes from the businesses sector. The City’s goal is to reduce business waste by 45 per cent by 2030.

Waste reports can be completed on the City of Lethbridge website.
