Youth charged in Lethbridge BB gun shootings

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) said it has apprehended a youth who allegedly fired a BB gun in multiple instances.

Overnight on January 22-23, 2024, the LPS said BB gun shots were fired at an emergency exit door at the Blue Sky Lodge on the 1400 block of 16 Avenue North. Another similar incident was reported the same night as well as one on the afternoon of January 25.

The third incident allegedly resulted in multiple shots being fired through an elderly resident’s bedroom window.

Police were also informed of a “loud crack” at a home on the 1100 block of 18 A Street North on January 23. A BB round was reportedly fired through the home’s kitchen window.

No injuries were reported in any of the alleged cases.

The LPS said a teenager was arrested and both the BB gun and cartridges were seized.

A 15-year-old male, of Lethbridge, is charged with four counts of mischief under $5,000, as well as one count each of possession of an offensive weapon dangerous to the public, carrying a concealed weapon, and intentionally discharging a firearm/knowingly being reckless.

Due to provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the suspect cannot be named.

The youth remains in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing.
