City of Lethbridge parking changes now in effect

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Drivers in Lethbridge will soon start to notice some differences when parking their vehicles.

The City of Lethbridge announced several parking-related changes on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

New parking incentives and changes, taking effect on February 1, include:

  • New parking enforcement hours from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday
    • Previously 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday
    • Free parking on weekends will remain
  • Zone 2 areas will be replaced with Zone 3
    • With only two parking zones, the city hopes it will make paid parking easier to understand
  • Paid parking top-up grace period increases from three minutes to seven
  • New free parking days coming in 2024
    • Sponsored by the City of Lethbridge
    • Days yet to be determined
  • Early payment reduction period increased to 10 days
    • Those who receive parking tickets will have more time to pay early in order to see the fine reduced
    • Currently seven days
  • Enhanced maintenance program for kiosks
    • If a kiosk isn’t working, another one can take a payment

Parking fine adjustments are also set to take effect on February 1:

  • Fines in the downtown core will increase from $25 to $40
    • Early payment incentive will reduce fine by $20 if paid in the first 10 days
  • Fines outside of the downtown core will increase from $25 to $50
    • Early payment incentive will reduce fine by $15 if paid in the first 10 days

There are more than 1,900 publicly-accessible parking spaces in downtown Lethbridge.
