LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Hurricanes forward Sean Tschigerl made quite the impact in the first game against his old team.

The Hurricanes took on the Calgary Hitmen on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the ENMAX Centre.

Throughout the first period, the Hurricanes sustained pressure early, and finished the frame outshooting the Hitmen 10-8.

The Hurricanes got on the board with 32 seconds left in the period with a powerplay goal from Tschigerl, who redirected a shot from Miguel Marques for his 24th of the season and 200th point of his WHL career. Noah Chadwick got the second assist on the goal.

In the second period, the Hurricanes’ penalty kill went to work, killing off three minor penalties to keep the score 1-0. Tschigerl continued his hot pace with another powerplay goal with just under three minutes left. Brayden Edwards and Marques were credited with the assists as the second finished at a 2-0 score.

Tschigerl and the Hurricanes kept the momentum going as the third period started, as he beat Alex Garrett through the five hole on a rush to complete his hat trick with his 26th goal of the year.

Just under three minutes later, Miguel Marques wired a wrister from the slot past Garrett for his 21st goal of the season to make it 4-0. Chadwick and Edwards picked up the helpers on the goal. Edwards would add his own tally at the 9:32 mark, assisted by Marques, to extend the Hurricanes’ lead to five.

Following a penalty to Carter Yakemchuk, Tristen Doyle scored his second of the year from Will Sharpe and Hayden Pakkala to end the game at a 6-0 score.

Tschigerl was named the game’s first star for his hat trick performance against his old team. Marques was given second star honours for his four point game, and Harrison Meneghin’s 25 saves earned him third star.

With the win, the Hurricanes improve to a 24-20-3 record on the season, and sit just three points behind Swift Current for third place in the Central Division. They will travel to Saskatoon on Tuesday, February 6 to take on the Blades.
