LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge is recognizing those who make their communities a better place this winter.

The City launched the Mighty Neighbour: Winter Warrior Edition initiative on February 8, 2024. The campaign invites residents to nominate neighbours who help shovel snow, maintain the entrances to gutters, or pick up after dogs.

Heather Gowland, Transportation Community Coordinator said, “Winter may bring icy temperatures and snow, but it also reveals the warmth in our communities. The Mighty Neighbours initiative aims to highlight those everyday heroes who make our neighbourhoods not just winter-ready, but mighty good places to live.”

As part of the initiative, the City of Lethbridge has created thee superheroes for the project: Snow Shoveling Steve, Gavin the Gutter Buddy, and Poop-Scoopin’ Penny.

Gowland added that if the campaign is deemed a success for the winter, the City may look into extending it into the other parts of the year.

Each month a nomination will be drawn and the winner will have the opportunity to have their story shared with local news and on the City’s social media channels, and they will receive a certificate and a gift of recognition from the City.

Those looking to nominate a Mighty Neighbour can do so at the City of Lethbridge website, where they can share info about what their nominee does for the community.
