Lethbridge Police charge two after collisions cause serious injuries

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Two people have been charged in separate, unrelated collisions that resulted in people being injured.

Just before 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2024, the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) responded to a collision at the intersection of 2 A Avenue North and 10 Street North.

The investigation determined that a 39-year-old woman was crossing the street when she was struck by an eastbound Honda Civic.

She was taken to hospital in Calgary to be treated for life-threatening injuries, where she remains.

A 26-year-old man from Lethbridge is charged with one count of careless driving under the Traffic Safety Act.

At approximately 8:16 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, the LPS was called to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 13 Street North and 40 Avenue North.

The investigation determined that a Chevrolet Silverado travelling westbound on 13 Street North collided with a Honda Civic driving eastbound on 40 Avenue North.

The two occupants of the Civic, a 39-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman, were taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

According to police, the speed of the Silverado was a factor in the collision.

A 16-year-old boy from Lethbridge, who cannot be named due to provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear in youth court on March 16, 2024.
