University of Lethbridge hosting International Women’s Day conference

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The University of Lethbridge (U of L) is hosting its inaugural conference for International Women’s Day.

The conference, which takes place on March 13, 2024, will have keynote presentations by Manjit Minhas, CEO of Minhas Breweries, Distillery and Winery, and Lori Campbell, Associate Vice-President of Indigenous Engagement at the University of Regina.

Martha Mathurin-Moe, vice-provost, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at the U of L said, “This event is about creating spaces of engagement with phenomenal individuals who have been change makers and have shifted the conversation around leadership and representation.”

The theme of the conference is “Telling Our Stories: Embracing Excellence”, which the U of L said will foster welcoming spaces of belonging for all voices, as well as share in the possibility and celebration of excellence as women/trans/queer or two-spirit individuals.

The event will also focus on the importance of representation, safety, sponsorship and trust, and the speakers will share leadership advice on how to thrive in the changing market.

The conference will also feature a panel of local leaders, who will be the founding members of the ULethbridge Inspiring Leaders Forum. These panels members are:

  • Cyndi Bester, CEO of Lethbridge and District Chamber of Commerce
  • kii Nitsikainaakii (Sunwoman) Annette Fox-Bruised Head, Indigenous Education Consultant at the University of Lethbridge
  • Adriana Mercader, CEO of Flexahopper Plastics Ltd.
  • Olutoyin (Toyin) Oyebola, co-founder of Genesis Exotic Market

Dr. Dena McMartin, Vice-President (Research) and event co-host said, “We have brought together thought leaders and innovators to offer an exceptional professional development experience right here in Lethbridge, and this is just the beginning.”
