LETHBRIDGE, AB – A man from Picture Butte was scheduled to have a bail hearing on Friday, February 16, 2024, but that did not happen.

The attorney for Nicholas Whimster appeared in the Lethbridge Court of Justice to inform the judge that her client would not be ready to make such an appearance.

Miranda Hlady said he is on the waiting list for an assessment at Chinook Regional Hospital that will need to be completed before they can discuss a potential release from custody.

Whimster is scheduled to appear in court next on March 15, 2024.

The 28-year-old is charged with one count of injuring or endangering animals.

The RCMP said a suspect was arrested at their home in Picture Butte on January 8, 2024.

Dozens of people took part in a rally outside of the courthouse Friday morning.
