Coaldale prepares for potential drought conditions
COALDALE, AB – Coaldale town council discussed drought conditions in its latest Committee of the Whole (COTW) meeting on February 5, 2024.
A letter received from the Alberta government in late 2023 outlined the measures that the province is taking in order to conserve water. However, in the letter, Minister of Environment and Protected Areas Rebecca Schulz said that “municipal action” will also be needed.
Coaldale Mayor Jack Van Rijn explained that Coaldale is reliant on the City of Lethbridge for its water supply.
Van Rijn said, “In the spirit of provincial and regional cooperation we thought it would be a good idea to get ahead of this now and signal our support for the City’s forthcoming water conservation plan.”
