LETHBRIDGE, AB – Technological advancements in agriculture will be highlighted next week at the Agri-food Hub & Trade Centre in Lethbridge.

Lethbridge & District Exhibition hosts the annual Ag Expo, presented by Farm Credit Canada, from February 27 to 29, 2024. This year’s event will feature a new Tech Zone.

Peri Price, Ag Expo Show Manager said, “We are seeing technology advancing at an incredible rate and it’s becoming more accessible for farmers and producers to use to support their businesses.”

Price added, “The Tech Zone brings these industry leaders together in one place and not only allows them to showcase their products and innovations, but allows farmers and producers to ask questions to better understand how they can use emerging technologies to improve their operations.”

Officials said one of the main areas of focus in emerging agriculture technologies is sustainable farming practices, whether that be drones analyzing crop health more regularly and with greater accuracy, or the production of green energies that help producers become more self-sufficient.

Sky Drones Inc., out of Lethbridge and Taber, will be one of the many exhibitors at Ag Expo.

Officials said the company was founded on a mission to improve and simplify agricultural processes for area farmers. Drone technology gives producers the ability to identify exactly where the needs are to help their crops flourish. They can also identify exactly where weeds are taking root, allowing producers to spray only where needed, which in turn can save time, money and resources. At next week’s Ag Expo, Sky Drones will showcase its DJI Agras T40 drone.

Another exhibitor will be Canary Biofuels, based out of Calgary. Canary became the first Generation 2 biodiesel producer in Alberta when its facility in Lethbridge County began operations in 2021.
