LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes fell 2-1 to the Edmonton Oil Kings on Friday, February 23, 2024.

The Hurricanes came into the game having previously broken a seven game losing streak with a 6-3 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Wednesday, February 21.

In the first period, the Hurricanes were outshot by the Oil Kings 12-5, and found themselves down 2-0 at the end of the frame because of goals from Matthew Gallant and Adam Jecho.

The Hurricanes dominated in the shot department in the second period, holding the Oil Kings to just two shots while putting 14 on goaltender Kolby Hay. Sean Tschigerl scored his 27th goal of the season early in the second to cut the defecit in half, with the assists coming from Leo Braillard and Landen Ward.

However, Tschigerl’s goal would be the only contribution on the scoresheet for Lethbridge, despite another dominant period on the shot counter. The Hurricanes outshot Edmonton 13-3 in the third period, but were stifled by Hay.

Hay was named the first star of the game for stopping 31 shots, while Tschigerl was named second star. Oil Kings defenceman Ty Nash was given third star for his two assist performance.

The Hurricanes will look to bounce back on Sunday, February 25 when they travel to Calgary to face the Hitmen.
