Victim in fatal avalanche identified as Lethbridge man

LETHBRIDGE, AB – More details have emerged after a man was killed in an avalanche near Castle Mountain Ski Resort this past weekend.

The RCMP said a group of four went snowmobiling in the backcountry on Saturday, February 24, 2024, when one person was caught in a snow slide. He was found deceased the following day.

The victim has now been identified as Dr. Scott Walburger, 46, of Lethbridge.

He was the president and owner of the Choice Dental Group, which operates Crossings Dental, Lethbridge Dental Services South, and Medicine Hat Dental.

Crossings Dental shared the news of Walburger’s passing in a Facebook post.

It continued, “Dr. Walburger was more than just a dentist; he was a beacon of healing, education, and unwavering dedication to the highest standard of care. For decades, he selflessly served our community, leaving an indelible mark on all those who had the privilege of crossing his path.”

He is described as dedicated father of three and a devoted husband, who, in additional to providing exceptional dental expertise, showed love and dedication to his family.

“As we reflect on his legacy, we are reminded of the profound impact he had on our clinic family. Dr. Walburger was not only a boss but a friend to his Team members he led at his three clinics, Crossings Dental, Lethbridge Dental Services South, and Medicine Hat Dental. His kindness, wisdom, and genuine care touched everyone around him, fostering a sense of unity and belonging that will forever be cherished,” said the social media post.

The dental clinics say they plan to carry on Walburger’s legacy.
