Ecoline Windows: Supplying energy-efficient products to Canadian homeowners

Feb 28, 2024 | 1:17 PM

“For more than 20 years, the team at Ecoline Windows has been working closely with homeowners across Canada to help them create dream houses.”

That’s from Matan Korin, vice president of sales at Ecoline Windows.

What is Ecoline Windows?

Ecoline is the window and door company that specializes in supplying and installing the best energy-efficient products locally manufactured in Ontario. The company’s products range from vinyl windows of various sizes to fibreglass and steel exterior doors, blinds and patio doors.

Korin said, “We have gone from strength to strength, and today, we operate in six provinces and over 20 cities. However, Ecoline still works according to the principle of ‘a big company with small company values’. We are local, friendly and respect every homeowner regardless of the project size.”

Korin explained that Ecoline Windows’ roots go back two decades, starting as a small company in Edmonton “with a great desire to help homeowners make their dream houses with energy-efficient window and door upgrades.”

“Since then, we have focused on building a nationwide company from coast to coast.”

Ecoline now serves clients in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba across more than 20 cities.

About Matan Korin, Ecoline Windows’ expert

Korin said his journey into the window, door and construction industry is “rooted in a blend of passion and technical expertise.”

Korin was initially trained as a junior mechanical engineer. He said his educational background helped lay a solid foundation for understanding the intricacies of technical systems, and noted, “This specialized education was crucial when I emigrated to Canada in 2010, where I began my career as a project manager at a manufacturing plant.”

He stated that he has always been drawn to DIY (do-it-yourself) projects and has always had a keen interest in the technical aspects of how homes are constructed, “especially in terms of energy efficiency and how it can be improved.”

Korin joined Ecoline Windows in 2013 as a sales manager. To him, the role was “more than just a job”.

“It was a learning journey that allowed me to deeply understand the nuances of windows and doors, from their design to their impact on a home’s energy efficiency.”

Korin added, “Over the years, my dedication and passion for the industry propelled me through the ranks, from regional manager to eventually becoming the vice president of sales. This progression was not just a testament to my commitment but also to my belief in continuous learning and improvement, principles that have guided me throughout my career in the window and door replacement business.”

Energy-efficient Home Upgrades: Why the Buzz?

Many homeowners, at one time or another, may plan out a renovation of their property. Korin said there is one aspect some owners tend to overlook when drawing out their home renovation plans.

He said, “Homeowners often overlook the importance of prioritizing renovations based on return on investment (ROI) and the availability of government incentives. Many tend to focus on popular renovations like kitchen and bathroom remodels or installing hardwood floors, which are visually impactful but come with high upfront costs.”

Korin continued, “For example, a kitchen renovation can range from $35,000 to $50,000, a bathroom renovation from $38,000 to $51,000, and hardwood floors from $17,000 to $23,000.”

“However, these choices might not always offer the best value when considering the initial investment required. In contrast, upgrading windows and doors can be a more cost-effective renovation with a comparable ROI. Moreover, in Canada, government rebates and grants are available for energy-efficient upgrades, which can significantly reduce the long-term costs of these improvements.”

“Upgrading to energy-efficient windows and doors not only enhances the home’s aesthetic and comfort but also offers substantial savings through reduced energy bills. This strategic approach to renovation prioritizes both immediate aesthetic improvements and long-term financial benefits, leveraging available resources to maximize the home’s value and efficiency.”

Window Replacement – Savings & Benefits

Windows not only offer a view to the outside world from the comfort of your home, but Korin said they also play an important role in a home’s energy efficiency, accounting for 25 to 20 per cent of residential heating and cooling energy use.

He said, “Energy-efficient windows are up to 55 per cent more energy-efficient than regular ones, making them a key investment for improving home comfort and reducing environmental impact, saving a lot on energy bills annually.”

When asked if there was a way to determine the type of window that is best for a particular building style, Korin said, “Before window installation, Ecoline experts thoroughly assess a house to determine the best type of window for its specific needs, considering the building’s orientation and the direction each window faces (south, north, etc.).”

“This approach ensures the selection of windows that offer optimal energy efficiency and suit the home’s conditions. Generally, homeowners prefer not to alter their home’s structure, so they often opt for the same window styles but upgrade to modern, energy-efficient units.”

He continued, “The new windows are typically triple-glazed and well-insulated, providing significant energy efficiency improvements without structural changes. While custom-shaped windows can add unique aesthetic value, they may require alterations to the home’s structure, leading to additional investments and extended timelines for manufacture. In terms of styles, single slider tilt and casement windows are bestsellers.”

Ecoline Green Grant

Korin added that Ecoline Windows has launched a new program. The Ecoline Green Grant aims to help homeowners save on window and door replacements. The program is similar to a previous federal initiative, Canada Greener Homes. However, Korin remarked, “Unlike the former government program, Ecoline’s grant comes with no restrictions or limits, offering up to $3,750 for windows, exterior or patio doors for any property.”

“Homeowners do not need to take on home energy inspections – that usually cost $800 – and target specific windows. All products qualify.”
