LETHBRIDGE, AB – The mayor of Lethbridge released a statement regarding Budget 2024.

The province tabled Budget 2024 on February 29, 2024, showing that total expenses in Alberta are up 3.9 per cent, as the province expects to spend $73.2 billion in 2024-25.

The budget includes major investments in health care and education, and teases a new tax bracket for those who make a maximum of $60,000 annually coming in 2026.

In response, Lethbridge mayor Blaine Hyggen said,

It will take some time to review the entire scope of the 2024 Provincial Budget, including discussions with our City Treasurer, to see the full picture for our city.

One highlight was the $43 million announced for the University of Lethbridge’s Rural Medical Teaching School. It’s a great initiative to train and retain doctors in southern Alberta. As always, City Council and I will continue to advocate for the supports we need in our city to best serve our residents.

I was pleased to attend today’s budget announcement in Edmonton, on behalf of Lethbridge City Council. We look forward to working with the Provincial Government in the coming weeks and months to learn more about what this budget means specifically for Lethbridge.
