Lethbridge speed skaters shine in Calgary
CALGARY, AB – Speed skaters from Lethbridge made their way to the Olympic Oval in Calgary at the end of last month. Athletes competed at the RU Fast short track meet on Feb. 24 and Feb. 25, 2024.
Younger skaters competed in 200, 300, 400 and 800-metre races. In division three, Theo Hazendonk set multiple personal bests, earning a bronze medal. In the same division, Wyatt Scratch finished in fifth. In division four, Caelyn Wolfe finished fifth among girls. Rachel Peake captured a gold medal, winning every race that she participated in for division five.
Lethbridge was represented by two athletes in division six. Norah Peake placed fourth among girls in the division, and Helene Forsyth placed fifth.
The city also saw several skaters in division nine. Henry Adema beat out his brother Reid Adema for first place. Both Adema boys achieved podium finishes for the event. Emily Peake made it to the podium as well, finishing as the third fastest girl in the division.
