LETHBRIDGE, AB – The end of the 2023-24 season is fast approaching for the Lethbridge Hurricanes, who find themselves in a close race for playoff seeding.

As of this publication, the Hurricanes occupy seventh place in the Eastern Conference with a 30-27-5 record. They remain within striking distance of the sixth place spot, sitting just two points behind the Brandon Wheat Kings with three games in hand. They have only six games left in the regular season, with three at home and three on the road.

Hurricanes assistant coach Ryan Aasman spoke on how the team is looking to prepare for their first round playoff series, and he says they try to prepare for any team they might play.

He explained, “We’ve found a way to play them recently which is nice, but now we’ve got to watch their games close, make sure we’re quoting those games and dissecting those players.”

The Hurricanes have a busy week coming up, with three games in four days from March 13-17. They host the Edmonton Oil Kings on March 13, and then the Red Deer Rebels on Friday, March 15. After the two games, they will travel up to Red Deer for another matchup on Saturday.

Hurricanes captain Joe Arntsen says, “You have to preach how important these games are coming down the stretch here because we need all of these points, because we can still climb in the rankings, which we want to do.”

Miguel Marques added that team morale is high heading into the final stretch, “We’re super excited, we’re confident, we know what this group is capable of when we’re playing our best, and right now we’re rolling. “

Following a stretch that saw them lose seven straight games in February, the Hurricanes have rebounded into form as of late. They sport a 6-3-1 record over their last ten games, scoring 38 goals over that time.

The Hurricanes beat the Blades, Warriors and Broncos all in that stretch, who are the top three teams in the division with one of them being a likely first-round opponent for Lethbridge.

“We played against these top teams, we’ve won some games, and we’ve just gotta keep that going” said Marques.

The Hurricanes kick off their game against the Oil Kings at 7:00 p.m. at the ENMAX Centre.
