LETHBRIDGE, AB – Residents of Lethbridge will have the chance to hear directly from those looking ot lead one of Alberta’s largest political parties.

The Alberta NDP has announced the dates for four upcoming debates between the six party leadership candidates.

The first one will be held at the Yates Memorial Theatre in Lethbridge on Thursday April 25, 2024, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Chief Returning Officer Amanda Freistadt said the NDP has finalized its list of candidates in the race, all of whom are scheduled to attend the debate.

The candidates are:

  • Jodi Calahoo Stonehouse
  • Kathleen Ganley
  • Sarah Hoffman
  • Gil McGowan
  • Naheed Nenshi
  • Rakhi Pancholi

Freistadt says, “I extend my congratulations to all contestants for meeting the requirements for nomination. We are proud that our party has attracted so many high-quality contestants for leader. Albertans have an opportunity to select the person who will eventually be the next Premier – a Premier who reflects the values that Albertans share.”

The deadline to register as a member of the Alberta NDP and to be able to vote for the next party leader is April 22.

Rachel Notley announced back in January that she would be stepping down as the party’s leader once a new leader is chosen. That is expected to happen on June 22.
