LETHBRIDGE, AB – One person has been apprehended after two people were stabbed outside of a bar.

Just before 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2024, the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) says it was called to Top Hat on the 1000 block of Mayor Magrath Drive South.

Their investigation determined that a 21-year-old woman and several friends attended the club and were confronted by a man and multiple associates.

“The male subject, who was previously involved in a relationship with the female, proceeded to stab her,” reads a media release from LPS. “A 26-year-old male attempted to intervene to assist the female and was subsequently stabbed, then run over by a vehicle.”

Both victims were taken to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge and later airlifted by STARS Air Ambulance to a hospital in Calgary in critical condition, where they remain.

At approximately 11:07 a.m., the Blood Tribe Police Service located a suspect inside a gold Dodge Caravan on the First Nation. He was arrested without incident.

A 21-year-old man from Standoff faces two counts each of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, and one count each of obstructing a peace officer and possession of a dangerous weapon.

“As this matter involves domestic violence, the name of the offender is being withheld in order to protect the identity of the victim,” says LPS.

The suspect remains in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing.
