Lethbridge Hurricanes celebrate season award winners

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The regular season has ended for the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The Western Hockey League (WHL) team closed out the 2023-24 campaign with a loss and a win in a home and away set against Medicine Hat on March 22 and 23, 2024.

Before Friday night’s 3-2 overtime loss against the Tigers, the club celebrated its season award winners at the ENMAX Centre.

Noah Chadwick and Trae Wilke were named co-winners of the Scholastic Player of the Year award. Both players had averages of over 90 per cent and took extra classes during the season.

Goaltender Harrison Meneghin received the 106.7 Rock Three Stars award, as he was named a star of the game 18 times this season. The team says that is eight more than the next closest player.

Noah Chadwick set career-highs in goals (13), assists (44) and points (57) while becoming the 12th Hurricane rearguard to pass the 50-point mark in a season. For his efforts, the Toronto Maple Leafs signee was named the Serfas Farms Top Defenseman.

Landen Ward was celebrated as the recipient of the Carl Trentini Memorial Award, being named the team’s Rookie of the Year.

Brayden Edwards set career-highs in goals (31), assists (39) and points (70). He also became the only player in team history to reach the 30-goal mark in two straight seasons. Edwards received the Lethbridge Fasteners’ Hardest Working Hurricane award.

Miguel Marques became the first 17-year-old Hurricane to hit the 70-point plateau since Dylan Cozens, who currently plays for the Buffalo Sabres in the NHL. Marques was named the Dennis Dirtworx Fan Favourite Hurricane and finished the season with 74 points (28 goals, 46 assists).

Well-known for his work in the community, Lethbridge team captain Joe Arntsen received the Herman Elfring Community Relations Award.

Logan McCutcheon was recognized for his perseverance, dedication and sportsmanship and named the recipient of the Joan Kobal Memorial Award. Through the 2023-24 campaign, he set new career-highs in goals (five), assists (32) and points (37), while only taking two penalties all season.

Lastly, Harrison Meneghin was also named the team’s Most Valuable Player, capturing the Harry Ingarfield Memorial Award. Meneghin had three shoot-outs and finished the season with a 2.59 goals-against average and 0.919 save percentage.

The Hurricanes will face the Swift Current Broncos in the first round of the 2024 WHL playoffs.
