Special weather statement in effect for southern, west Alberta
A special weather statement is in effect for most of southern Alberta.
A significant change in weather is coming this week, with cooler temperatures and snowfall expected. Above normal temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday will be quickly followed by a multi-day snow event as a cold front sweeps through Alberta.
The heaviest snowfall is expected along the foothills and in the mountain parks, where a total of 10 to 30 cm is possible by Friday. A total of 5 to 10 cm is expected east of highway 2 in southern Alberta.
According to Environment Canada, the snow will begin overnight along the northern foothills and progress southward on Wednesday. Snowfall will intensify on Thursday, and spread eastward towards the Saskatchewan border.
