LETHBRIDGE, AB – There will be some local representation at the Calgary Stampede this summer.

The Lethbridge Lodging Association has announced that its consumer-facing brand, VisitLethbridge.com, has secured a sponsorship of a renowned chuckwagon racer. Chance Thomson will be competing in the 2024 Rangeland Derby at the Calgary Stampede from July 5 to 14.

Officials say the partnership “underscores the association’s commitment to promoting Lethbridge as a vibrant tourism destination to a worldwide audience”.

Thomson is a fourth-generation racer with over 25 years of experience. His great-grandfather Jack Coates was one of the first Canadian drivers at the Cheyenne Frontier Days and a regular competitor at the Calgary Stampede during the 1950s.

Officials add that the sponsorship will provide significant exposure to Lethbridge, with thousands of people expected to attend the Rangeland Derby.

“Known as one of the most thrilling events of the Calgary Stampede, the derby draws a large, diverse crowd, providing an excellent platform for highlighting what Lethbridge has to offer,” reads a release from VisitLethbridge.com.

“From its scenic landscapes to its rich cultural history, Lethbridge is positioned to attract visitors looking for an authentic Alberta experience.”

During the event, VisitLethbridge.com will engage attendees with contesting and prizes.

More on the chuckwagon races is at the Calgary Stampede website.

The Calgary Stampede will run from July 5 to 14.
