LETHBRIDGE, AB – This will likely be the one chance residents of the Lethbridge area to see the five candidates looking to lead the Alberta NDP before voting takes place.

The party is set to host a leadership debate from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at the Yates Memorial Theatre.

The candidates are Naheed Nenshi, Kathleen Ganley, Jodi Calahoo Stonehouse, Sarah Hoffman, and Gil McGowan.

As of December 31, 2023, the Alberta NDP reported having 16,224 members. While they will not report updated numbers until May 12, the party claims to have experienced “record growth” since the kickoff to the leadership race.

Rachel Notley announced back in January that she would be stepping down as the party’s leader once a new leader is chosen.

Registered NDP members will receive a ballot and information package in the mail in the beginning of June. Voting will take place from June 3-22 and the new leader is expected to be chosen on the 22nd.
