Coulee Cleanup underway in Lethbridge

Apr 22, 2024 | 12:48 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – An annual initiative aimed at cleaning Lethbridge’s river valley is underway.

The Coulee Cleanup started on Monday, which, fittingly enough, marks Earth Day. A special launch event was held over the weekend and this year’s cleanup will run through to May 31, 2024, giving residents ample opportunity to sign up and help clear the coulees of litter and other debris.

Officials say litter negatively impacts the overall health and aesthetic of the local environment and wildlife, including plants, mammals, birds, insects, fish, reptiles and amphibians depend on a healthy ecosystem in order to thrive.

A registration form is available online.

Participation is free and areas included in this year’s Coulee Cleanup can be seen on a virtual map.

More information about different river conservation efforts are available from the Helen Schuler Nature Centre.
